Canadian Experience Class Requirements & Checklist

Skilled workers from abroad who have Canadian work experience and want to settle down in Canada permanently may apply under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Permanent Residence (PR) category. They have to meet the minimum requirements to be eligible for the EE invite, such as:

    • Language Ability:
      • Equivalent to CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) 7 and above in Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing sections of the approved language test for National Occupation Classification (NOC) 0 skill type and NOC A skill level.
      • Skilled tradespersons that fall under the NOC B skill level applying under the CEC need to have CLB 5 and above in all sections.
      • Those who choose to take French language test should have scores equivalent to NCLC (Niveaux de Compétence Linguistique Canadiens) 7 and above for NOC 0 skill type and NOC A skill level, and NCLC 5 and above for NOC B skill level.

    Note:

    • Skill Type 0 refers to managerial jobs.
    • Skill Level A refers to professional jobs.
    • Skill Level B refers to technical jobs and skilled trades.
    • Skilled Work Experience:
      • At least 1 year of full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in Canada in the last 3 years.
      • Your experience may be a mix of NOC 0, A, and B jobs.
      • It is important to note that you should be employed in Canada legally to avail of this benefit.

    Note:

    • Full-time work experience requires you to work at a job for at least 30 hours per week. More work hours do not affect your CEC application. If you work for 15 hours or more per week but less than 30 hours per week, it can be counted as a part-time job. 2 years of part-time job constitutes as 1 year of a full-time job.
    • Working as a full-time student or self-employment cannot be counted towards skilled work experience.
    • Education:

CEC does not have minimum education requirements but education credentials can win you more points and entry into the EE pool. You can get points for a Canadian certificate, diploma, or degree or an equivalent foreign credential (as proved by the ECA (Educational Credential Assessment) report).

The applicants should be admissible to Canada and also have to specify where they intend to live in Canada. Those who migrate under the CEC program can only live outside Quebec. Canadian Experience Class applicants are exempted from the proof of funds requirement.
